Today’s FamilyFirst site centers on a nation that is located in a beautiful part of the world. Its shores are lapped by gentle Caribbean waves, although it does face the occasional hurricane.
It has a colorful history of being America’s playground for the wealthy.
And if you travel there from the United States, you are currently subject to arrest.
The nation is Cuba, and today’s FamilyFirst pick is a site offering information about the island nation.

One subject I steer WAY clear of is politics. However, is it just me, or does the Cuban policy seem a bit . . . inconsistent? I mean, who is one of the U.S.’s biggest trade customers? China. And the reason Cuba is being deprived of American business is what? Being a repressive communist regime? Can anyone recall what happened in a place called Tianamen Square a few years back?
OK, that’s absolutely as political as I will EVER get here. Let’s talk about the site.
One of the things I learned here was that Cuba is largely covered by pine forests! I never knew that. In fact, they have a thriving lumber industry which accounts for much of their economy.
I also learned that much of the land was once owned by Americans. Perhaps that’s the main source of the beef that this nation has with them?
You can shop online here, too. Get books on Cuban recipes, get a video of former Pythoner Michael Palin exploring Hemingway’s life in Cuba, and more.
So enjoy today’s perhaps slightly controversial FamilyFirst pick. Perhaps circumstances and legislation will change sometime soon and allow American citizens to legally visit this beautiful island.
